Jewellery Photo Sizes for Instagram, Shopify, Etsy and Amazon
Wrong crops are one of the quietest ways to lose sales. A clasp cut off at the edge, a pendant lost behind a UI overlay, or a blurry upload all signal “low quality”. Here is what to use.
Quick reference
| Where | Ratio | Recommended size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram feed | 4:5 | 1080 x 1350 | Takes the most screen space |
| Instagram feed (square) | 1:1 | 1080 x 1080 | Safe for grids and previews |
| Instagram Reels / Stories | 9:16 | 1080 x 1920 | Keep key details clear of top and bottom UI |
| Shopify products | 1:1 | about 2048 x 2048 | Consistent grid, zoom-ready |
| Etsy listings | Landscape or square | Large images, 2000 px or more | Follow Etsy’s current seller guidance |
| Amazon main image | Square or near | 1000 px or more on the longest side | Pure white background |
| 2:3 | 1000 x 1500 | Tall pins perform well | |

Composition tips for each ratio
- 4:5 and 9:16 need vertical composition. Necklaces and drop earrings suit them, rings need a hand or a model to fill the frame.
- 1:1 suits flat-lay and symmetric pieces such as studs and hoops.
- 3:2 works for banners, ad creatives and bracelets across a wrist.
- Leave safe margins of around 10% so overlays and rounded corners do not cut details.
Resolution and file size
- Export at the largest size you need, then let each platform compress.
- JPEG for photos, quality 80 to 90. PNG only when you need transparency.
- Keep files under platform limits; large PNGs are slow and unnecessary.
Do not crop afterwards, compose for it
If a photo is shot square, a 9:16 crop will chop the piece. It is much better to compose each format on purpose. Jewellery Photoshoot lets you pick 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 3:2 before generating, so the piece is framed correctly in each version.

Frequently asked questions
What size should jewellery photos be for Instagram?
4:5 portrait at 1080 x 1350 pixels takes the most feed space. Use 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 for Reels and Stories, and keep key details away from the top and bottom edges.
What is the best image size for Shopify jewellery products?
Shopify recommends large square product images, around 2048 x 2048 pixels, so zoom stays sharp and collection grids stay aligned.
Do I need different crops for each platform?
Yes. Composing once and cropping badly cuts off stones and clasps. Generate or shoot with the final ratio in mind. Jewellery Photoshoot creates 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 3:2 compositions directly.
