How to Choose an AI Jewellery Photo App: 8 Checks Before You Pay

By Jewellery Photoshoot Published Updated 6 min read

There are now general AI product-photo apps, apps built only for jewellery, plugins for online stores, and DIY routes with a phone and a lightbox. Their sample images all look good. These eight checks help you decide with your own pieces instead.

1. Does your design stay exactly as photographed?

This matters most. Upload a piece with detail, such as a pave ring or a fine chain, and zoom in on the result. Count the stones, check the setting, the clasp and the chain links against the real piece. If anything changed, the image is not safe to sell with. See our guide on what AI jewellery photography can and cannot do.

2. Does it make the formats you actually use?

Marketplaces, Instagram feeds, Stories and Pinterest all want different shapes. Jewellery Photoshoot composes 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 3:2 directly, which avoids cropping a finished image afterwards. Whatever app you choose, check that it covers your channels; our photo size guide lists common sizes.

3. How is it priced, in full?

Look for four things: is it a subscription or credits, how many images a plan really gives, whether unused credits expire, and what a finished image costs after you reject the weak ones. For Jewellery Photoshoot, the monthly plan includes 40 credits a month and the yearly plan 30 a month, one credit is one image, and credit packs expire after 30 days. Current prices are on our FAQ; the cost calculator lets you compare against your own photographer quote.

4. Can you test it on your own piece first?

Jewellery Photoshoot gives one free shoot as a watermarked preview and has no free trial. Whichever app you try, find out what the free test includes before you enter payment details, and whether a subscription renews automatically.

5. What does it need as input?

Most apps need one clean photo with the whole piece visible and a plain background. Better input means better output, so a few minutes with our phone photography guide pays off in every app.

6. Does it fit the marketplace rules you sell under?

Each marketplace sets its own image rules and policies on generated images. Read the current seller help page for yours, for example Etsy’s, before you replace your listing photos. No app can promise you that a result is accepted everywhere.

7. Where is a photographer still better?

For print campaigns, brand shoots with a specific model, and any record where every facet must be exact, such as insurance, use a photographer. Many sellers use both. Our AI vs photographer comparison sets out the trade-offs.

8. What happens to your data?

Check whether you need an account and whether you can delete your uploads. In Jewellery Photoshoot you can delete your data inside the app.

A simple test you can run in an hour

  1. Pick three pieces: one easy (a plain band), one hard (pave or a fine chain) and one reflective.
  2. Photograph each once, evenly lit, on a plain background.
  3. Run the same photos through each app you are considering, using the same style.
  4. Compare every result at full zoom with the real piece. Note changes, formats and cost per kept image.
  5. Keep the app whose results you would be comfortable selling with, not the one with the nicest samples.

You can try this with Jewellery Photoshoot using its free preview shoot, then compare the result with any other app you are considering.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to photograph jewellery with a phone?

It depends on the job. For pure white listing photos a phone and a lightbox can be enough. For styled and on-model scenes from one photo, an AI jewellery app helps. Test two or three with the same photo of your own piece and compare each result with the real piece.

How do I compare AI jewellery photo apps fairly?

Use one clean source photo, the same style in each app, and judge the results at full zoom against the real piece. Write down what each app changed, what it cost per finished image, and which formats it gave you.

Should I trust the sample images on an app's page?

Treat them as the best case. Samples are chosen by the app's maker. A test with your own piece, including a difficult one such as a pave ring or a fine chain, tells you much more.

What does Jewellery Photoshoot not do?

It generates images from your photo, so it can get a detail wrong and you must check each result. It is not a replacement for a photographer on print campaigns or for insurance and appraisal records.

Skip the studio. Shoot it in 20 seconds.

Upload one phone photo of your piece and get studio, on-model and campaign shots. First shoot is a free preview.
